“A real answer to prayer that she, and we, are praising God for…”
One of our church members arrived at a bible study meeting a little upset as she’d just managed to lock her car keys inside the car. Also now locked in the car was her handbag containing her mobile phone and house keys. Very unfortunately, as she’d been taking her friend shopping that day (whereby she gives her spare car key to her friend to allow them to load their shopping in the car while they wait for her to finish shopping) the spare car key was also in the handbag and now locked inside the car. I drove her to her house to see if she had another spare (no) – fortunately she had a key safe with a spare house key. I suggested she phone the AA, who said they would be there within an hour. My husband and I waited with her and a very helpful chap from an associate organisation arrived with a whole set of tools to attempt to break into the car. But despite using all the tools on every door, he was unable to get into the car due to the car having an immobiliser. He apologised, saying there was nothing else he could do, and recommended getting back in touch with the AA, and asking them to send a locksmith to drill one of the locks out. We had been praying that the chap would be successful, so it was a little disappointing. By this time, it was quite late, so we drove our church friend home, leaving her to phone the AA again in the morning. We prayed while we were with her that God would intervene in some way to ensure neither of the options that seemed the only solution (breaking a window or drilling a lock) would be necessary. We continued to pray for this, and next morning found that God had answered. She had decided she couldn’t wait for morning and must have phoned the AA again as soon as we dropped her home – and another very helpful chap had arrived, had picked her up from her house to take her to the locked car at church, and then used different tools which enabled him to successfully get into the car where the first helpful chap had failed. She was able to drive home without any broken windows or drilled locks. A real answer to prayer that she, and we, are praising God for. And she is now looking to get another spare car key cut so there will always be a spare in the house!
