“In the mid seventh century Aidan, the leader of the Irish Mission to Anglo-Saxons was on retreat on Inner Farne Isle, which overlooked the headquarters of the King at Bamburgh. He discerned that the warriors of a pagan tyrant had laid siege to the town, plundered the wooden houses and set fire to huge piles of wood. The rule of King Oswy and therefore the mission of Aidan would be killed off. Aidan raised his right arm in prayer and simply said ‘See, Lord’. The wind abruptly changed, driving smoke into the faces of the horses and warriors, who retreated, never to return.” Source:- Lindisfarne
